Walter Lee Younger; the son, the husband, the brother, and the young father....
What can I say about such a character? Physically, Walter strikes me as a younger fellow. I see him standing about 5'9, very slim, but with something witty, yet charming about him. He's the man of the house, but in a very obvious way he isn't. I think it's is better suited if I say he tries to be the man of the house, he just goes about it in all the wrong ways. His personality seems very strong when it needs to be, yet very unsure and insecure.
The actor I choose to play the part of Walter, is Columbus Short. Similarly he's slim, in his late 20's, and is pushing 5'10. Almost identical! Well in my head that is...
Columbus Short
Columbus short is an amazing actor. He does everything! Connected with Walter's "Gamble big, Win big" attitude, they're just perfect for each other. Short character's in movie roles have some type of variation, like when he played a dancer in You Got Served, and went to playing a soldier in War of the Worlds. He can adapt to any role, or character. Turning into Walter, the early 1950s, as a disrespectful husband, and young dad, and also the ignorant son and brother. I think he would play it out very gracefully. He would transform, and turn into a young, fresh new voice. He would bring Walter's get rich fast schemes and ignorant personality into something you wouldn't imagine!
